![]() The Houston Rockets were introduced to the NBA as the San Diego Rockets in 1967 (1967-1971). That same year the American Basketball Association became the rival league. The Rockets were not successful in San Diego and moved to Houston after only four seasons. The best player they had was Hakeem Olajuwon, who was with the Rockets from 1985-2001, and was later placed in the Hall of Fame. Many other of the Houston Rockets players were placed in the Hall of Fame such as Charles Barkley, Clyde Drexler, Rick Barry, and Elvin Hayes. The best palyers they had were Moses Malone # 24, Calvin Murphy #23, Rudy Tomjanovich #45, and Clyde Drexler #22 along with others that also brought the team together. Rudy Tomjanovich later began coaching the Rockets in 1993 along with Don Chaney. He retired in 2003 because he was ill. He took the Rockets to win the NBA Championships back-to-back in 1994-1995.
![]() I consider the best player on the team to be Allen Iverson, who currently ranks #2 in the NBA in points per game. |
